Encouragement—death and life are truly in the power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21 puts it this way: “The tongue has the power of life and death.” The stakes are high. Your words can speak life, or your words can speak death. Our tongues can build others up, or they can tear them down.
Webster defines the word encourage as follows: to give courage, hope, confidence, help, or support.
The inspired word of God gives us the greatest encouragement. The word gives us hope in situations that appear hopeless. It tells us that we are overcomers and more than conquerors, and the ultimate is we have conquered death through Jesus Christ!
First, be encouraged, be filled with His encouragement from the living word so you can then freely give away encouragement without expecting anything in return. That is genuine encouragement.
One of the most defining scriptures of how God wants us to speak to others is in 1 Corinthians 14:3, where we are encouraged to edify others and encourage their spiritual growth. We are encouraged to speak words of encouragement concerning God’s matters and speak words of consolation to compassionately comfort them. The scripture shows us the heart of God is a heart of love and encouragement. It says that when we speak God’s inspired word to others, it needs to be for edification, exhortation, and comfort.
S. Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A, posed this question, “How do you identify someone who needs encouragement?” and his reply, “That person is breathing.”
We ALL need encouragement!
In following the example set before us in His Word, we are asking you to join us in 12 days of encouraging one another as we count down to National Day of Encouragement from September 1 through September 12. We will be writing cards to encourage different people in our lives and communities! Follow along on social media using the hashtag #MMLoveWithCards and encourage your friends and family to participate!
Be ENCOURAGED TODAY, friend! And then join us in spreading encouragement to others.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:12
